Brass Bracket

Hi all, I think this is a bracket of a 12 pounder Naval ammo box.
Can anyone shed some light on this item?
It came from a WW1 passenger steamer (that was armed with a 12 pounder gun) I have declared to the receiver of wrecks.

The bracket is tapered at the ends and the hole in the middle is offset with a flat side like it is meant to turn or something.
It is made of bronze I think.

Thanks in advance.
