Brass flare cartridge identification please

I wonder if anyone can identify this flare cartridge for me. It’s 1 inch calibration, the case is rebated semi rimmed with no headstamp. The primer is marked MGC P

I suspect this is French, as the marks on the primer stand for "Marcel Gaupillat & Cie, Paris", I believe.
