your shot if British and I wonder if its American as it looks like theirs, would be coloured like any other shot of that period and country in terms of color, bands and any other major items ie tracer fitted, also would be the calibre and filling date. So a good start would be looking at other peoples postings of WWII AP shot. Search on AP and go through loads. If yours is soft when stroked with a file near the tip then its a practice one.
From the looks of your picture I think your "shot" is unlikely to be of British origen, and as 2 pounder states it may well be American in origen, and as the shape is right with the "boat tail" for it to be American !
If American the colours and markings will be different from British markings.
The engraving on the band is very similar to that of a 17 pounder which at 77 mm Calibre rules it out of being fired from the same weapon thus making more likely to be American.
