British E1 Mk III box

Hello all,
Spotted this box in a local antique shop (been there for months) but as I couldn't identify it I still haven't picked it up.
Can anybody help identify what it originally would have held so I can decide whether to grab it. Marked E1 III.
Regards,
Haydn

I don't know what the box held, but M83 was the wartime (WW2) contractor code for Fisher & Ludlow Ltd., Coventry, Birmingham, and Smethwick.

They made amongst other things, Lancaster wings, pontoon parts, shell cases, Sten butt components and complete Sten butts.
