British Royal Artillery button

It is about 20mm in diametre, as you can see it says "Smith & Wright, Birmingham". The seller, of course, said it was from the War of 1812. I think it is much more recent, but I am no button maven. Any idea?

In use for many years after 1901\2 and still easily found if you want to go looking.

The crown is the Victoria pattern of “queen’s crown” so it’s like Slick says, used until 1901.

The crown design was changed to a “king’s crown” in 1901 and the new design used until the early 1950’s.

sksvlad, the queen’s crown you show alongside the king’s is the one for Queen Elizabeth II, the queen's crown for Queen Victoria looks somewhat different.

And they would still be used for a number of years until the old stocks are used up, they didn't stop using them overnight and 1901 would have been when they would have been first introduced not the end of their use, they where still putting out Kings crown brass buttons on the burn pile along with the northern Ireland pamphlets and loads of other stuff early mid 80's on the waste ground behind the sports ground and near the johnson range track at Pirbright.
