British wood ammo box H47

hi, does anyone know what an H47 wood ammo box was used for? Its dated 1945, has lost its paper labels but has faint black & yellow diagonal stripes across the top.

I appreciate that boxes often had several different uses but what was it generally used for?

20mm Hispano 60 Rds. If it has Yellow diagonal stripes it is suitable for use in Tropical climates. Should be on a Brown background.
