Me again,

This time I don't have the exact dimensions since I spotted this wodden box at a local charity shop, But I estimate it to be about 90cm long and 25 cm high and 25cm wide. it's very well made (too much may be for an ammo box) and there's a red square inspector type ink stamp at the bottom, and that's pretty it. I suppose it was repainted at some point.

Any idea's welcome.

it does have some ammunition box features but I think it is more likely for equipment
is there a date and makers code impressed into the base?

I would guess a box for equipment, and by the looks of the hinges and the corner protectors, possibly German. Cheers, Bruce.
