British WW1 No27 Phosphorus grenade

I am planning on making a cutaway British WW1 No27 Phosphorus smoke grenade, and I am thinking of filling the interior of the non-cut side with something,like a two part resin or similar, does anyone know what the original filling would have looked like ? Tony.
