BROCK IGNITER

My version of the Brock igniter .The top cap is made from drawn lead sheet as per the original drawings.Comments pleae
what exactly is this ? it looks like it has bickford fuse? is it electrically ignited ? what are the copper wires for ?
thank you

Dave you are correct , Bickford fuse is used. These ignitors were used in early WW1 grenades ,[number 15 etc] the top lead cap and tear off tape when pulled off expose a friction match composition. The copper wires were to be used to hold the detonator assembly onto /into the grenade itself. The Number 15 Ball grenade had a round headed screw set in place to enable the copper wires to be twisted around it.

The bombers who used these often had a small rectangular pad (brassard) covered in sandpaper, strapped to their non throwing arm.
