A small basket of lemons and pineapples (please excuse the terminology as I know very little about grenades) showed up at the shop last weekend. They all have M228 fuzes except this one I brought home with a M213 and one had a plastic fuze with 228 lever. I also suspect mine has a 213 lever on a 228 fuze. I haven't seen C Broad arrow marks before on these types of grens before, and also with plugged bottom holes before. They all have the mark on the plug and on the lever. I didn't think these grens were used over here.
Please, any information would be appreciated.

I think someone got busy with a stamp...

There have been numerous counterfeit stampings with the C/|\ stamp. There are some original stamps out there and some unscrupulous people are doing to make some money. That ink stamp looks to me like the one that's usually applied to Cloth.

I'd agree with that wholeheartedly. It just seems like quite a bit of extra work to take an already cheap surplus store mashup, and fill the bottom hole up a bit with some sort of metal and slap some marks on it. And a C Broad mark at that. I can see how this would actually be a quick and simple process however. With what little I know about grenades, I swear I've never seen a Canadian Pineapple here. They wont grow in our climate anyways.:confused:
 
The MK II Body was not threaded to take the M213 or M228 fuze. That is a modified novelty body.
 
Yes novelty. I thought the threads were different and should be longer also. Someday I will find a nice old mark 2. This is just for fun for now. I usually end up passing these along to others who seem more interested in it than me. Thanks gentlemen for the information.

Someone was trying to make the grenade look authentic but in the process has made it look ridiculous IMO. I love it when people add superfluous marks to items (without doing any research to boot).... makes it easy to recognize items that have been messed with.
 
In the photo of the base, there is a weld bead from a Mig welder around the outside of where the plug would go. I've never seen a weld on the bottom of a pineapple. You can see where they took a grinder to the casting, and then the weld was added.
 
HAZORD. It's solder. I just carved a sliver off, won't stick to magnet and then melted it over the stove. They must have stood these grens up, and poured it in. Then stamped them. One of the other ones had a smaller C Broad arrow stamp on the bottom. They must have a couple different stamps.
 
Caveat Emptor I think. I expect all of us have bought a copy fake lash up in the hope its real.
 
The MK 1 body appears to be one of the sand cast commercial copies made from a "FRX" M21 body. They have the larger threads for the M213 type fuse body... A 'wet dream' all around. Available (less the Canadian markings) by mail order in the U.S.
 
You definitely can see very rough imperfections from the sand casting on these. I was not really expecting authenticity when it came to these grens, just an explanation of the interesting Canadian markings on what I believed to be an American type grenade. Grenades are something I have quite limited knowledge of so I appreciate the education. I may go into production of custom marked grenades myself if anyone is interested.:hahaha:
