Calibre is 8.8cm but what is it really?

I had this for a while, but can't find out what it is.

Calibre seems to be 88 or 87mm diam, length of the projo is 31.3cm, the driving band is 7.5mm wide and 6cm from the bottom. The fuze thread accepts a French gaine on which a 24/31 fuze fits, but I am not too sure it's made for it.

Can someone help??

And there's no stamps or marks of any kind which is rather weird.

Hello,

pre WW1 and WW1, 90 mm système de Bange.
Re-introduced into service in 1914, as to few of the 75 de campagne we're available. There is an interesting article on this Gun on the site of the Western front association.

Greetz.

Hi,

IMHO, this is not a french projectile

90mm Mle 1914 FA is 305mm high (BELOT, 1 siècle d'artillerie française)
90mm Mle 1915 A type B is 308mm high (BELOT, 1 siècle d'artillerie française) and the driving band is 10mm wide at 65mm from the bottom (DOVO, REFERENTIEBOEK MUNITIE PRE 1925 GEVONDEN OP HET BELGISCH GRONDGEBIED)

Regards,

S.

Hello,

A French 90mm model 1915B to compare (very difficult to make the difference between model 14 cast steel and model 15 steel)

Thanks MinenAZ16, after remeasuring, it could well be the steel Mle 15B 90mm de Bange, however the driving band isn't 10mm wide, but definately 7.5mm, could it be a variant?

Thanks sgdbr, I tried to find out more about the book you are mentionning but to no avail. Can you tell me when it was published and where?

Hello,

-Doppz92, the band is very thin on these shells, I have to check on unfired one, but I think it's not 10mm.
-Books mentionned :
. Belot : books are not for sale. The author copied original documentation, sometimes with new colored diagrams and translation...
So like all books, you can find minor mistakes made in copying or from the original source.
. Dovo : belgian Eod documentation, not for sale. These nice documentation was made with observations on unexploded ordnance and belot books.
