Can anyone identify this German case?

It appears to be in the 3" range, is marked Polte Magdeburg, but incredibly for a German piece of ordnance it does not identify itself!

Possibly a mountain howitzer or other small howitzer of the time?

Thanks,
Walt

Looks like 77mm from WWI. One of a bazillion that made it back to the states. I think all the AEF guys were each forced to bring one back with them. There are a lot of threads here about the 77mm projectiles. Key in 77mm in the seach box.
