Can someone place this waffenamt?

Hi all,

I have only one good reference source, that of the Wikipedia at present,
and it does not show an identification for WaA43 as you will see below.

This case was a Flak 41 brass, if that helps to place where it may have been
manufactured.

The waffenamt mark is the inspectors mark. Is there a three letter code on the case? - this will be the manufacturers code.

I can look up the three letter code for you if this helps?

Thank you for your reply.

I included a photo there at the bottom of my post, I just checked, it is there.
Actually, this was #43 or WaA43 is for some reason is does not show on your display.
I suppose I didn't even have to include a photo,WaA43 would be all the ID it needs.

Hi Walt,

I think we are at cross purposes here. Let me explain the WaA43 with the eagle is the inspectors mark. Elsewhere on your brass case there ought to be a three letter code (group of three letters - no eagle etc) this is the code for the manufacturer of the case - this group of letters will give you the manufacturer of the case and details of factory/area of manufacturer.

..........see this photo below, I have circled what I think is the three letter code on the case......photo taken from an earlier thread you started. Unfortunatly I cant quite make it out from this photo - if this is indeed the case you need an ID on??

Sorry for the delay, but I have gotten the three letters you need.

They are all lower case, i am suprised that you recalled or had even seen the visible letters there were to see from that post!

Anyway, they are "asb" and nothing more.

The letter "a" was very difficult to see, even in good light and with a 4x jewlers loupe!

So OK, does a complete waffenamt consist of the eagle with the WaA43 under and the letters "asb" stamped elsewhere?

Thank you so much for your stalwart digging to get that image from that post from last summer.

Wikipedia did not have an identity for WaA43, likewise the "asb" has no explaination.

While we are at it, the projectile has a few stampings on it. It is a PzGr39-1 and has stamped in the back " A bwr 84 " spaced out and possibly on a radius
around center.

That is all the info i have.

Does this all make sense to you?

Both WaA 43 and maker's code asb refer to D.W.M. Borsigvalde.

I think Reino has answered your initial question. Great link to the WaA codes as well!!

The three letter code is a separate thing to the WaA mark, I wasnt aware that a list existed for the WaA inspectors mark, but you can see from the list that Reino posted that the inspectors were not tied to just one factory, so for identification of the factory the three letter code is better.

Oh yes! Thank you Reino, thank you Kevin for this enlightening information. I was under the impression that a waffenamt was
a specific person's own personal stamp, that may be true sometimes, but now it appears more a stamp signifying a manufacturing
factory or a single stamp within that factory in which there are others.
