The attached may be of interest. I have not had time to research the equipment that these were for and would appreciate information (Dave or TonyW?) on the ordnance if anybody knows. The 4 Pr may have some association with the 2-inch of an earlier thread.

Seemingly the 8 Pr was developed to provide an 'up gun' capability replacing the 6 Pr tank gun whilst using the same mountings. This was in response to the Germans increasing their tank frontal armour as reported in the Middle East in April 1942. The 8 pr project was abandoned in December 1942.
 
Would it be possible to do a close-up scan of the base measurements of the head of the 4 Pounder case? It appears that it is a necked down 6 Pounder 7 CWT.
 
I just checked these measurements against a 6 Pounder 7 CWT case. The 4 Pounder does have the same base dimensions to the 6 Pounder. Now to find one for the collection (if any were ever actually made).

Two questions...............what is the length of the 4Pr case (is it 441mm as in the 6Pr 7cwt case) ? I can't quite read the drawing...
And do you have a drawing (or the dimensions, or any other info) of the 8Pr case?

The length is from 19.39 inches (low) to 19.42 inches (high). No sign of the 8Pr case yet.
 
Looking at the drawings of the 4-pdr shot, I see that it seems to have 2 grooves for driving bands, but no crimping groove. Was this projectile intended to have similar driving bands to the 6-pdr 6Cwt projectile, and to fit in its case in the same way?

Three gooves in fact - I thought the forward band would spark some interest. Good point about securing to the case. I have not found any text to support this design so I don't have any answers but 'I will make a note of it'. There was work done on 3 1/2 Pr which I will drop a couple of paragraphs about when I have had time to research it a bit more thoroughly.
