Hello,
This cap came with a french 37-85 case.
It's the first time I see such a cap made of sheet metal.
What is it ?

Hello,
JD mortar propellant cartridges (Jouhandeau -Deslandres).

Here it is the cartridge for the 75 projectile.
The 120mm projectile has a case with a larger charge and a higher cap (48mm).

Bye.
Best regards.

Doppz92, no marking on the cap and common markings on the case 37-85 (dated 1916).
I don't know if this cap belongs to this case and I don't know if other markings were added when used with JD mortar.

I have been looking for such a cap for 20 +years :(
Earlier cases stamped later ones ink marked which usually gets lost hence
confusion when found. These case examples are not mine, I have a 1916 stamped and have
never seen the later stenciled kind. I have noticed a number of the stamped cases used in drill rounds.
Maybe found to be difficult to segregate casings so taken out of use more or less in favour
of inked cases.
