Hi to all,
I'm trying to re-find what this 'buttery' gold finish to this 1970 dated FN 7.62 NATO round((+) FN-70) is called, have seen it somewhere but can no longer find it,also the reason to finishing a brass case like this.

Pictured on the left next to a 'normal' FN brass case

Cheers
Tony

It looks like the Israeli acid washed finish they use for battlefield pick-ups and floor sweepings.

Hi Tony ,sorry but i dont understand your answer "acid washed finish they use for battlefield pick ups and floor sweepings" ??

The Israelis have surplussed large quantities if ammunition, mainly 7.62x51 and 9x19 that were recovered from battlefields after actions, together with that from the bottom of bins in factories and magazines etc ("floor sweepings"). These have been in various conditions and so were washed in a dilute acid solution to clean them up prior to sale. This leaves a distinctive dull yellow finish to the brass as described by t'other Tony.

I hope that explains things,

Regards

Ah right i understand now...many thanks for explaining this for me Tony

So THAT's why the D*@M loose Israeli 8mm wouldn't fire and the powder was all screwed up!! I always wondered about that! Thanks for the info, Tony.
