Based on the dimensions and photograph, I suspect its a Russian 130mm M46 case or similar. I'm happy to be corrected on this.
Fred

As Fred said, probably a cartridge case for a Russian/Soviet-developed 130 mm M-46 towed field gun. If so, the brass case would be the 54-G-482 (54-Г-482) model.

The 54-G-482 case is ≈846 mm long, has a neck diameter of ≈143 mm, and a rim diameter of ≈185 mm. They should weigh ≈11.4 kg.

A view of the base markings would also help.

Likely...

4 = production batch
73 = production year (1973)
K = the type of brass used (silicon)
257 = factory code
SM (СМ) = quality control department code

I may have got something wrong as it's not easy to read.

I can't read the rest of the markings, or those on the primer.

The primer is commonly a KV-5-U (КВ-5-У) percussion primed model (see image below).

Thanks, well the primer is badly rusted, but all this confirms it's Russian origin then.
Images were not taken by me. It's on a Canadian militaria site now as German ~ :eek:
