The class is for police bomb squads and covers grenades that have been recovered in the US. Every one of the grenades in that box has been recovered by a bomb squad at some point in the past 10 yrs in the US (and unfortunately most of them get blown up because they firmly beleive they are all live).
Hey Eodtek, Please give your superiors my name and address, and as a public service i'll see to it that they are properly "disposed of" free of charge. Dano
Silly man, I don't have superiors...just people who are lucky enough to have me working for them.
We usually aren't the ones disposing of the items. I generally hear about a bomb squad that destroys a grenade because it's dangerous. How do they know that it is you ask. Simple, it still has the pin in it (and yes, as we all know that is where the explosives are stored...in the pin).
I've hears some great reasons over the years but it all comes down to one thing. If you x-ray the item 99% of the time you can tell if it's empty or has a live detonator in it.
Actually thinking about it now, I don't have a Mills bomb in the box and I think I only have one in my collection and it's Paki.
I still have a ton of stuff figuratively and literally to pull out, photograph and x-ray. I'll throw some more photos up at some point.
As for attending the class, I do it for bomb squads, the military and so on. I only do 4-5 a year due to other classes I teach so it's kind of hard to hit one at the right time.
