Leaflet/Rrickoshae,
I enjoyed reading your posts. It was the leaflet collecting that got me interested in the ordnance that carried them. From rifle grenade, to mortar, to artillery round, to bomb, to rocket, and special devices for leaflet dissemination in between, are fascinating. A book by author James M. Erdmann, Leaflet Operations in the Second World War, tells about the inventiveness of the soldiers and airmen designing leaflet delivering systems, especially for aircraft. I built a replica Monroe T-1 Leaflet Bomb from a design drawing and it is on display in the Special Warfare Museum at Ft. Bragg, NC. I, too, wish there was more interest in a new PSYWAR Society.
The WWII German Weiss-Rot Geschoss (105mm) leaflet round used 2 metal shims around the leaflet bundle(s) to protect the leaflets from compressing and the blast heat. Even though the US continued using 105mm smoke rounds for leafleting, we NEVER improved on them.
Cheers,
Doug
