I thought this might be of interest to some on here - an 18 pdr HE shell made at the National Shell Factory, Bristol (NSFB) in November 1918. Obviously surplus to requirements it was engraved to commemorate the service of one of the Bristol munitionettes, a Mrs Hemmons. She was no doubt thrilled to have been presented with such a memento.

Having just scanned for posterity a rescued batch of period photos from a local WWI Shell Factory, I found a couple of particular interest - or at least not often seen. One shows the hydraulic press for applying the copper drive bands to 18-pdr shells, and the other is the Bond shop where the bare metal shells are lacquered. The ones on the table are seen to have the transit plugs in place.
