Container but for what?

Can you show the rest of the container? Is it missing one end? What you show reminds me of STO (sealed tear-off) cylinders for such things as artillery fuzes among others.

First time, I was thinking on a British box (color), but for a 1945 ordnance British thing, arrow was missing.

Then I looked on RLL and I found an US maker : Roller Mfg Inc

Let's keep looking for what this No 524 Mk I may be
