Cordite Carrier No.56 VI

Andy Naude

Well-Known Member
This Cordite Carrier came into my possesion a short while ago.

It is marked No.56 VI and dated II 1944.

Two guns were mainly used in South Africa, the 6 inch and the 9 Inch.

Does any body know with which gun this cordite carrier was used?

Its not for the 9.2 inch Guns, they used the No. 36 and No. 50 Cylinders.

The 'N' on the containier says to me that it's a Naval Cylinder so it could be for Cartridge Cases or Charge bags. Whats the internal dimension in inches?

Good Day, Interesting observation. The internal diameter is appoximately 145 mm. The 4 inch Mk. 16 is too long. Maybe the two piece 4" Mk.4 round with projectile?

Kind regards,

Andy
