These pics attatched by spotter show another area which had great importance in ww2.The gun emplacement faces inland and was used in the build up to d day to train troops in preparation for the day.The heath was cleared in the seventies by the mod and they recovered about 80,000 projectiles!Quite a few were live HE. I used to visit a farm in this area where the farmer used to leave live 4.2 inch mortar shells on his garage roof for BD to pick up!The area in the pics is Studland heath in Dorset.
