Am I correct with the factories and dates on this projectile?

Cwg.8.38 = Westfaelisch-Anhaltische Sprengstoff AG, Coswig plant, August 1938

An.6.4.40 = C. Beutemueller u. Co. GmbH, Metalwarenfabrik, Bretten-Baden, April 6, 1940

I’m not 100% sure about the 4.40, seems to me like a long time between filling with the explosive charge and final assembly.

Thanks!

An is not a manufacterer but a code for the filling station (Heeresmunitionsanstalt). It represents the place were the filling station is located, in this case An = Aschersleben.
So the explosive filling with nr. 33 was produced at the Westfälische-Anhaltische Sprengstoff AG, Coswig plant and later pourred into the shell body at the filling station An.

Ah interesting. I imagine that's the reason for the big difference between 1938 and 1940. I suppose they made big stockpiles of explosive filler and used these for several years? Do you think the 6.4.40 date is correct? The 6 is easy to recognize, and I think the other numbers are 4.40?
