The postie has been busy this week by dropping off my pre-crimbo self presents!

Here we have a couple of de-capitated fuzes for your perusal.
I have quite a collection of these now but havnt sussed a way of how to display them?
Wall board or shelf is the question?

The first one is a top from an 89D but what on earth is the other one?
It has 'Ladezunder' and 'lel' stamped on?
Over to you gents. :)

Closer shots of the 'ladezunder'..
The cap is jammed on one of them so its off to the oil bath for a while methinks.
The other similar type has the standard 2 pins.

Paul,
I may be wrong, but I think it is some sort of charging head for a fuze? (as used with type 69)
Seen something similar but not identical.
Will keep looking!
cheers
Kev

Thank you Gents. :)

I agree it could be some sort of a full size fuze.
Note the 4 plugs on the last shot.

They look full size and not decapitated, not sure what the 'lel' stands for - now if it was 'lol'!! ha ha.

cheers

lol indeed!

What i meant by full size my friend is that the fuze heads are all the 'standard size'. The AZ69 for, instance is a little fuze.
I call these my decapitated collection as there are only heads and top cases left out of the bunch.
Tomorrow in daylight i shall have some more shots. :) getting quite a few of these now including a type 15 and a 17.

displaying

hey waff

why dont you get a nice piece of varnished/stained wood, and cut holes into it that will except the fuze arse end?

This can then be displayed/mounted vertically up a wall like a picture frame with your fuzes all in a row with their name underneath each one.

You'll just have to make a deep frame at the back,so that the fuzes dont impede fixing to wall.

You could even attach a glass door to the front to protect them!

Happy Christmas Wiff

......errr ...I mean Waff:wink:

Hello 18 Pounder,
Thats a good idea, If I could afford it I would make the shelf from perspex.
All best,
navyman.

Good idea lads,thank you. :)
I dont want to go too mad though on the project as the collection may outgrow a nicely made cabinet.
The perspex was once an option for the complete fuzes but i then came up with the cheaper wooden shelf and either lie them down or stand them up depending on fuze type for room.

waff..Ladezuender Tel = Ladezuender Telescoprohr.
it is a transverse fuze and is used with HE bombs with the telescopic rod types sd50 and sd70.
The charging device is electrically connected to a delay element in the telescopic rod.on release from the aircraft the current from the electrical charging device initiates a delay assembly which ejects the telescopic rod after 3 seconds

attatched drawings from "german airdropped weapons to 1945 by Wolfgang Fleischer"
waff this is on your bookshelf somewhere

Thank you very much gentlemen. :) Great write ups and drawings.
I have another oddball amongst this lot.
Check the one with no number but has 'EX' before the normal ELAZ.
It doesnt seem to have a number above the waff stamp and once looked liked it was mounted on a plinth at one point? Could it be an experimental fuze? dated 1937 Rhs(Rheinmettal Borsig)

Here are the rest of the fuze heads to be mounted.
Includes a 25D which has to lose its head very soon as the body is all burned out.
Also included here are 28(B/2),15,17,46 89B,41 and 38.

Hi Paul
These look as though they have come from a training ground

Hi Steve,
Ive bought most of them from various places all over the manor, and yes i can see now how they would have been used for training.
Whats your thoughts on the mystery one with 'Ex' before the standard stampings?

best

waff

Hi Paul,
I've seen a butterfly bomb marked up Ex on the circular wing, I too would like to know what the Ex marking signifies - I would hazard a guess at a drill training fuze or projectile. I'm sure someone will know for sure, I too would like to know the answer!

Also cannot see from the diagram that Steve posted, is the 'Tel' fuze you have a short type of fuze, and so full size as I suggested earlier, or has it indeed got the bottom of the case missing? Whatever, it is a very intresting piece, not seen or heard of that one before! Great find, well done.

Cheers
Kev

Hi Paul im pretty certain the EX is Exersise , im still trying to locate the manual to confirm

Thanks Kev :)
Good question on how full sized this 'Tel' was?
Just had a mess about with it and it seems that a gaine fits on perfectly!
I wonder if this fuze had a bakelite outer case or similar?

cheers
