DM19 Series

The BLEND-BRAND DM19 grenade is a incendiary grenade (blend-brand= mixture-incendiary) from the german BUCK (BCK code) factory (now parts of Diehl brand). The DM19 is an old model; the new one is the DM24 Incendiary-Smoke. Two practice versions DM38A1-UB and DM68-UB are also provided.

Also, Incendiary burns for approximately 5 minutes at a temperature of 1200C.

Joe, from what I am seeing there is only a "Practice" version called the DM 68. My Jane's library only goes up to 1990-1991. In the practice version it contains an "INERT Lime dust" for simulation on the target. The casing is made out of plastic and is ignited when this casing hits a hard surface and cracks open. It produces a large flash which blinds the enemy and immediate smoke which becomes an irritant to the nose and throat. Gotta update my library here soon.

I would believe Francesco_Dif is probably right if there is more versions.

I have one of these in my collection with its transport container. The only help I can offer here is to describe what I have: The grenade looks exactly the same as the one on Lex's site, except the cap is red instead of black. It reads HGR DM 19 BLEND-BRAND on the upper body and LOS on the lower body with BCK-2-249 printed after it in black.

The transport container is a DM 306 (cardboard tube). The label on the side reads: GV 00 GRANATE, HAND, DM19 Blend-Brand LOS BCK-2-249.

I can only speak for models used in the German Bundeswehr:
DM19 with fuze DM52: old version with grey body and grey fuze. Newer version with red body and brown fuze
DM38 with fuze DM17
DM38A1 with fuze DM10
All were manufacture from approx. 1960-1975
Filling of DM19 = 260 g. 75 % red phosphorus + 25 % magnesium.
Filling of DM38 / DM38A1 = inert.
I don’t know whether the DM24 or DM68 were ever used or not. Other nations like Austria used that grenade too.

The 2nd picture of Manniman is not a german grenade, but an Austrian made Brandhandgranate-85; very similare, but not the same. austria SMI Brandhandgranate85_01.jpg
 
Tough to find in good condition. Mine are pretty beat up.

Just a small addition here. From German "blenden" is blinding/screen (hand grenade). I.e. being phosphorous, it is simultaneously smoke and incendiary type (BLEND-BRAND).
 
Does anyone have the DM52 fuze they can take pictures of? I am in need of the measurements and images of this portion if possible. I have a good internal drawing but that is it.
