EL ZtZ 59 A bomb fuze, Germany

microplastic

Well-Known Member
Cutaway model of the EL ZtZ 59 A bomb fuse, which was introduced in 1943. The fuse was used with the LC50 F/A flare bomb. It has three selectable delay times: 12 seconds, 41 seconds, and 58 seconds. The EL ZtZ 59 B has the same functions but is equipped with a threaded connection for the booster charge.

Before attaching the bomb, the long delay time—either 41 or 58 seconds—must be set using a screwdriver. This is done by turning a pin that establishes the corresponding electrical connection via spring-loaded balls. During flight, two delay times are then available, which can be selected with a control unit.

-For release with short delay, the mid or long delay igniter (depending on the set time) and the lower right igniters are ignited, the lower igniter burns off one-third of the lower black powder charge (12 sec.)
-For release with mid-delay (41 sec.), the lower left igniter is ignited; this burns off a small part of the upper black powder charge and the lower black powder charge completely.
-For release with long delay (58 sec) the upper igniter is ignited; this burns off the upper and the lower black powder charge.

The flame then ignites the booster pellet.
