EL ZtZ 79 A bomb fuze, Germany

microplastic

Well-Known Member
Cutaway model of the EL ZtZ 79 A bomb fuze, introduced in 1943. The fuze is used for various cluster bombs, dispenser containers and photoflash bombs.
It features two selectable delay settings: 3 seconds and 13 seconds.
The EL ZtZ 79 has the same functions but different delay times (3 seconds and 30 seconds) and no thread for the booster charge.

The delay time can be selected in flight via a control unit. For release without delay, both igniters are ignited, the lower igniter burns off one-third of the lower blackpowder charge (3 sec.); for release with delay, only the upper igniter is ignited; this burns off both the upper and lower blackpowder charges completely (13 sec.). The flame then ignites the booster and the detonator.
