Experimental crowd control grenade

Hi All. Heres a strange one for you to ponder over.
It is a Crowd control gren made by Mecar and trialed by the British Army in 1972. it is a solid rubber disc approx 3 inches in diameter and 1 inch thick attached to a hollow tail with a screw. it is marked RG - BT 7.62. The tail is 6.5 inches long and has 8 holes in it (gas vents?). there is a bullet trap in the top of the tail which still has a bullet rattling around inside. It was simply placed on the end of the rifle (SLR) and fired at the rampaging mob to hopefully calm them down and disperse them. (most likley it would have killed anyone it hit) Not surprisingly it was not addopted by the British.:tinysmile_angry_t:
Anyone have anymore info on this beast?
cheers, paul.

Paul, it is marked "RG" how can it be made by Mecar? If so it should have been marked "PRB".

Maybe only the BT-system got licenced by PRB? Or is the "RG" not a manufacturer related marking?

The markings stand for Rifle Grenade-Bullet Trap, not Radway Green. Mecar code would no doubt be MCR or MA. PRB is the code for Poudreries Reunies de Belgique.

I am not sure of the timeframe relationship of this anti-riot grenade to the one submitted. There is no date on the MECAR catalog this came from. Max range of this one was 150m, but I'm sure you could not hit a selected target at that range such as a rioter. Hopefully someone has data on the exact one shown initially.

EODGUY, sorry I mixed up the codes of Mecar and PRB.

Thanks for the clarification of the "RG".
