I wish everyone a Happy New Year! Greeting to "bocn" members again, I hope this is in the correct section, if not MOD please move to where it fits.

I have another "What is it" Question. Background: retired old (75y/o) cop turned this in during a local amnesty day event. He says he got it from a WW2 vet about 30yrs ago. Item feels “solid” – no one has opened it yet.

It first looked like 4 or more TNT Demolitions blocks stuffed into a case, without any priming access. But because of the paint job and packaging, could it be a prepared bulk explosive charge for some special purpose, (eg. Sabotage charge, bulk charge, self destruct explosive component, Bar mine HE filler pack?, yes I am grasping at straws) The stripes are yellow as you can see, the base color is OD, OG, Black or your guess.

Any Ideas and thoughts are greatly appreciated; and thank you for taking your time and your efforts.

Looks like the lead seal has been removed and the container opened at some stage of its life, mabe remotely remove the lid, better still pay for a flight ticket to USA for me and I will take the lid off...... Dave

Millsbomber,

Why do I think you have an idea what the item is? "Lead seal removed'' :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Talked with the guys that recovered this yesterday, they describe it as OD. Regardless, the paint and markings are certainly non-typical. It is a shame that is has been opened and the sealing band apparently took the important markings with it. With the apparent lack of a priming well the thought also occurs that the coloring is not far off from some smoke candles/pots. They also mentioned that they took two X-rays 90 degrees apart, the two central lines were present in both.

Thanks Mike, that is the one that came to mind.

Hello,

Thanks for the documentation on HC candle. Now I know the designation of the device previoulsy shown by Us-Subs ("random museum thread").
The last picture shows a "miniature" candle.

Regards
