Finish on components on WWI 3 inch Stokes mortar bomb

I’ve just purchased this fully strippable 3” Stokes bomb to restore. I know the HE body was painted dirty white, but were the other components left in bare metal, or given some sort of finish such as shellac?

Thanks.

The pistol and cartridge holder, and the top and bottom plates, were usually finished with a rustproofing by Fermangan treatment or shellacing.
