Another hobby of mine is antique glassware (mainly bottles, insulators, etc..) Well I visited another collector friend the other day and he has a tremendous collection of "fire grenades". These are colorful glass receptacles filled with fire retatdent and sealed with a cork and/or wax. They were to be thrown at the fire. There were so many variations and glass colors. This guy has about 400 different examples and is really quite a nice collection. Many of the bottles are embossed "Fire Grenade". Colors run from clear, greens, reds, cobalt and about every shade imaginable. I know SG500 is a bottle collector so I think Dave at least might enjoy this post. Here are a few pictures of Canadian glass insulators that I climbed poles in Canada with my old collecting buddy (Robt. Lloyd) on my many visits to Canada. I do collect old glass as well, and especially all military glassware. I think I still have some old Finnish glass insulators if you are interested.

Any chance of a photo of your antique glassware please Dano? Sounds interesting (I gave up collecting bottles 20 years ago but am still interested).

All but a few of my bottles are in my stall at the antique mall. I just kept some sentimental pieces, ones dug, insulators climbed for etc... most of the bottles are sold now (they go fast around here as they are a popular collectible) so all I have left are a few local sodas that I dug and 5 or 6 insulators. all my energies are put into the ordnance hobby these days. I don't dig privies for bottles anymore (middle age) but will still buy for resell in the shop. I did have a realy nice colored soda collection but all sold off....Dano

Hi Tmine, I don't collect anymore, just kept some for sentimental reasons. Have never seen Finnish glass insulators and would at least like to see a pic or 2. dano1917@yahoo.com

This is the very first bottle I ever dug. It is a blob top soda from Belleville ILL (where I lived at the time). It was 1972 and I was just a kid. boy was I excited. Many bottles came out of this first privy and they were all from the 1890's. This one used a slug plate for the embossing.....Dano
