Firing unit from a German magnetic naval mine

Hello everyone

I wondered if you could help me to understand more about something that I think is a firing unit from a German magnetic naval mine. It has been in my family since my Dutch grandfather obtained it from an airfield at the end of the second world war. I have been trying to work out what it is for some time and last night I found a photo at the Imperial War Museum that means I think it is a firing unit from a German magnetic mine and then I found this forum. It has SE ded-M-7592 marked on it which I've been trying to decode. There are also some initials inside and some writing on the outside. My son is doing a school project on world war 2 and is going to write about this

That's really useful Fusse, thank you. I will show these to my Dad. He remembers that it used to be part of a bigger structure that my Opa used to have. I wonder if that's the silver ring with the black section that you can see in some of these photos.

Hello BavarianBear,
This is indeed the firing system of the German magnetic mine from World War II, known as the "LMB". More commonly called the "ALA" from the M1 to the M4. It was used primarily for influence mines but also for the moored mine, the "SMA". Happy reading!

@BavarianBear: your device is the officially called "Fernzündgerät M1" (formerly called "SE-Bik" <> Selbsteinstellender Einnadel-Ballon-Inklinatorium). This M1 device was used in different mines but not in the BM 1000 Monika shown above.

The A.L.A. in US documents means "Automatic Latitude Adjustment"
