do any of you know anything about these items please?

Could be WW2 german flare cartridges, i have several from Guernsey , which after the surrender of the Germans the local kids let off 100,s of flares , totally illegaly , but after 5 years of rule who was going to stop them , mine have been
burnt , as those that were not fired from the flare pistol,s were put onto a bom fire.

Not too bad saying they were underground for all that time!.Where these found in soil or sand? maybe the type of ground made a difference to the preservation?

They were found a few metres from the shore in sandy soil , just about 150 mm down , found using a metal detector and local knowlege.
