flare?

Hi,

I found this item a while ago on a Dutch military trainingground.
My first guess is that its a light/flare rocket or something.
It has no markings on it and it's made from plastic.
I couldn't find anything about this in my documentation of the Dutch army.

Dimensions are about 25 cm tall ( about 10 inch) and the inner diameter is 1.5 inch.

It's melted due excessive heat and bent a bit.

My questions are:
What is it exactly?
How is it fired/used?

I do not have the documentation at hand. But I think it is the inside of the Schermully 1.5 inch parachute flare. My advise NEVER pick something up from a military training ground if you do not know what it is. One of these days it will cost you at least a couple of fingers.

@ Fragman. Thanks for pic, it sure looks like it.

@ Antoon. I inspected it before i picked it up and it was clearly an empty plastic shell without anything in it. But thanks for the warning.
For the record, i'm not digging for ordnance or ammo. I only take things with me when it's clearly empty. I'm very attached to my fingers and the rest of my body.
