Hey guys..just wondering if the 25pdr ever had a flatnose practice round like all its smaller brothers or if the only flatnose projectiles are proof rounds? And any pictures anyone has would be great..Cheers

I've never come across a 25pdr Flat head or proof projectile. My understanding is that flat head shot were for practice firing of HV rounds but on ranges with a geology that was prone to ricochet. This was certainly the case at Sennybridge in Wales were 2, 17 & 6pdr flat head are prevalent. This does beg the question of how what was used for 25pdr was proofing!

I know a collector here in Australia who just purchased a flatnose 25pdr shot,i was told by another ordnance collecting friend that all proof shots have proof stamped on them but this guys shot doesn't..there are a lot of flatnose training shots to be found in oz and seeing as his doesn't have proof stamped on it im leaning towards practice but cant find any solid evidence...

Original image removed at original posters request due to unforeseen copyright ,but additional images of the same type of flat head proof shot can be seen in shooter1992s post below

G'day Torch we find heaps of 2 pdr flat nose prac up here in FNQ I have not yet found a 6 pdr flat prac but a mate has . I have been told that a fellow collecter in SA has a 25 pdr flat nose but I don't know if it is Prac or proof as I haven't seen it . PM Ozziammo from this site he may know of this round but I cant be sure

How interesting - never seen one of these before. I wonder if its an Australian version only. In relation to practice ammunition - the only reference I have previously come across before in relation to 25pdr Practice is solid shot AP being substituted for (due to shortage of AP solid shot) by plugged HE rounds. This was in an Ordnance bulletin.

This is the projectile in question. The projectile is a little worse for wear and difficult to make out the markings properly, but I have tried my best to take some finer detailed images.
