For Mills experts : Brazilian Mills grenade

The second example looks like a so-called Paulista (i.e. made in the São Paulo region during the Brazilian revolution of 1932) copy of the British No.36.

From the page of the unfortunately unidentified period manual attached, my limited grasp of Portuguese suggests it was made in some quantity as an emergency measure during the revolution, and afterwards adopted by the Federal government. A cup somewhat similar to the British Cup, No.1, MkI for No.23 grenade was then developed so that a rodded grenade could be launched from a rifle.

Copies of the Mills have been made since the 1920s, with the earliest I have found by a breakaway group in India. A testament to its reputation as an effective weapon. Thanks for showing this version.
