Oh yes.. lots of No1 rifles sloshing about after the war... They were still being made in Ishapore until fairly recently...
 
The British-Egyptian relationship is long and complex. There was a British military presence there until 1956. We trained and equipped their army to at least the end of WWII.

As an aside, the strength of the Suez Canal Zone Garrison in the early 50s was in excess of 70,000. The current strength of the whole of the British Army is just over 80,000.
