Will try to post pic in a bit, but it was $2 at the local junk shop, couldn't resist...

Brass band and brass tip marked "254 II NNC 12" Steel body that is expands a mm or so 45mms. from the base??

Sounds like a 20x110 Hispano projectile with a No 254 fuze on - likely a US production when found in the US.
