Frame to hold eight M1 ammunition boxes - please help identify

Here is a steel framework and tray that holds eight M1 ammunition boxes, painted OG. It is made up from welded MS angle and flat strip with a folded sheet tray and four loops to secure a pair of webbing straps to hold the boxes in position. It has small diameter drilled holes in the frame top members. Webbing straps have inked markings but I can't decipher enough to identify a maker or date etc.

I haven't seen another and am thinking it was for use in/on an AFV or other vehicle rather than general transport as there were wooden crates for this purpose, holding four boxes I think. Drawn a blank with web searches and would appreciate help to confirm (or otherwise) its intended use and history. I acquired it a year ago, filled with M1 boxes (one had a Denver packing card dated July 1944 and another an Ordnance Salvage Return Note dated OCT 11 1958).
