French : 24/31 Mle. 1918 with ‘Ex’ marking

In attachment images , also notice on the top , a bit of red paint still on it.

My question : the Ex marking , is this French ? Or German? Or any other nation? Exercier , Exerzier , ...
hope anyone can help out with this , or has an idea of it.

Yes, I think these markings were added in german arsenals during 2nd WW. Have not seen other french Ex stamps on fuzes, but I have a french 47 mm case where the french abbreviation is "Exce".
