French ww1 Mortar of 1860 with projectile

From an ebay sale by Urfaust.
It was faded and I managed to improve the image some what and I was given this
description of use. "Rather rare picture of an old trench mortar from 1860' taken as a reply to the german Minenwerferand they were launching either à spherical bomb filled with black powder and using an old fashion
wooden time fuse ignited by the flame of the discharge... Or a wooden bucket filled with a lot
of old sphérical hand grenades lighted by the discharge "

Very nice and rare photo of ww1 "Appareil Moisson" (made of wood and filled grenades) fired with 15cm mortar model 1838 called "Crapouillot". This mortar was made to fire black powder canonballs but improvised projectiles were made in 1914.
"Appareil Moisson" was invented before ww1. Differents models were made to be fired with old mortars 15cm, 22cm, 27cm, 32cm

French infantry diaries from WWI (Louis Barthas especially) did not convey positive thoughts about the Crapouillot.
