Fuse cap?

Hi all,
I picked up this brass cap the other day as it’s marked the same as the Fuze on my 18 pounder shrapnel shell.
was this a transport cap? What are the solder marks? A form of attachment to the fuse whilst In transit?
I know VSM is “Vickers, Son and Maxim.
