Do you know the country of manufacture? Or where it was found?
'Peffer' is how Pepper is spelled in Luxembourgish, and sometimes older German - today the German spelling is usually 'Pfeffer (I think) with the extra 'f'. The 'Piave' river was the main line of battle between the Italians and Austro-Hungarians in late-WWI. There were Italian and Austro-Hungarian munitions factories in the general region, particularly to the north on the Austro-Hungarian side.

The battle of the Piave River was in June 1918. The British Army fought with the Italians against the Austro Hungarians.
It was followed an action on the Asiago Plateau between the British Army and the Austro Hungarians.
I have a pair of Trench Art cases engraved Asiago and Piave that were my Grandfather's. He was in the Royal Engineers and fought in both actions.

ThomasP, the manufacturer is G.Roth, i figured the engraving was "Pepper" maybe someones nickname !, the neatest "trenchart" i have ever seen, thanks for your comments
glevum, many thanks for your comments, when i have time i will read up on the river Piave and what happened there, i never knew the Brits were fighting in Italy in the 1st ww, interesting
