I bought in the past a big lot of these containers from our army sales, some of them had a small wooden filler disc loose on bottom, but perhaps they were ment on top to fill the gap??

Hi Alan When the fuzes are shipped they have the cap on the top and often a screwed plastic plug in the bottom this fills the space ,and protects the threads for the gaine to screw on
on the Artillery fuzes they had a small round packing piece inside
