Genuine M9A1 AT Grenade....

Another find from this weeks Syracuse gunshow...I picked up a really nice training version and this, which is a real deal M9A1 which I am pretty excited about.

Unfortunately someone painted it with funky colors...BUT I think the original yellow is underneath! Now the question is, how can I strip off the top coat of paint, and leave the yellow????

I like that the cone is still in the front section.

I will see if anyone has thoughts on removing the paint before I start...I will of course post pics afterwards.

Try a piece of cloth soaked with regular engine oil. With a bit of luck it will dissolve the (newer) top layer of paint.

Finally got around to working on this...the paint wasn't coming off without it all coming off...so I restored it by repainting and labeling...

Looks fine for display, and it is a real M9A1, not a trainer or dummy (as it has the cone inside the payload section, but of course is empty....

Yeah, you're right, didn't think of that...info here says the switch took place probably mid 42...but since its a re-stencil, its easy enough to change again! :tinysmile_twink_t:

Nice grenade! You might want to avoid the canary yellow and try some school bus yellow to get closer to the appropriate shade, then give it a coat of clear satin or flattener to knock off the glare.
