Reading through the Blitz then and Now books Volume 2 Page 313 it states that an announcement was made in a memo from RLM dated December 17 1940 that a new bomb had been produced that weighed 2,500 kg and was to be painted RLM65 hellblau (blue) and that it was to carried externally on Heinkels HE111H-5 and HE111H-6 aircraft operated by KG26 Sqd only
The first one being dropped saturday 21/22 december 1940 on Mersyside.
The Hendon bomb fell in February 1941 and killed 80 people , 148 hospitalised and a further 300 slightly injured
