So called: 5 cm Tankabwehrkanone in Spreizlafette. (5-cm TaK). A 1937 Rheinmetall design built to order of Heereswaffenamt/ Waffenprüfwesen IV. As mid 1930 the 3,7 cm caliber was already considered obsolete, a weapon with improved AP capacity was deemed necesary. Rheinmetall built a weapon in 5 cm caliber to specs. stating that 40 mm of armour were to be defeated at 700 mtrs. The Rheinmetall gun managed to defeat 44 mm at 700 mtrs. These specs, however, were also deemed to feeble as newer tank designs were found to have armour of 60 mm and over. Thus the TaK was never taken into production/service. The Heereswaffenamt dropped it's demand that a new AT gun was to weigh in at less than 400 KG's, freeing the way for a heavier weapon ... this became the 5 cm PaK 38.
So the design you show is the ancestor to the PaK 38.
