German 7.5 LG40?

Hi Everyone, I am a little out of my 'comfort zone' with some of this bigger stuff. Attached are some pics of a German recoiless cartridge. The case has a diameter of 10.5 cm and yet the accompanying canister is labelled 7.5 cm this is reciprocated on the edge of the case rim. I am aware that there was indeed both an LG 40 in 7.5cm and 10.5, but why label the 10.5 as 7.5??

This is correctly marked 7,5cm recoilless case. Both 7,5cm and 10,5cm recoilless cases are oversized of diameter. Therefore your 7,5cm case easily can be mistook as 10,5cm as it's quite identical to 10,5cm l.F.H.18 case ( except the bakelite bottom plug that is missing from yours).
Congratulations, 7,5cm case is far more rare then 10,5cm which already is a rarity.

And here my 105mm
LG 2 Kp case, unfortunately in poor condition...
Was find on Battlefields from 1944r.

Thanks Gentlemen...I remeasured the case diameter and it is actually 110mm. On the photograph of your example Mariusz, is that the primer installation on the side of the case? And forgive me, but why was the case oversized to the projectile??
Peter.

Recoilles guns were designed for paratroopers and therefore barrel length had to be kept shortest possible. As recoilless operation needs rather big powder charge the gun designers chosed separate loading instead of cartridge loading and oversized case diameter to achieve needed powder volume.
10,5 cm recoilles case has primer on side of the case but 7,5cm in middle of the bakelite base plug.

Hi,
Exactly like Tmine35 wrote; in 7,5cm primer is in middle of the bakelite base plug.
Look pic;

Best Regards.

Some pictures of the gun and it's ammo.
The markings are stamped in on the side of the rim of the case.
