german 77 artillery piece for British navy??

Found this interest in artillery piece while passing through a small town in south Australia
Sign says it is a German 77mm field gun converted for naval use.
Carriage is marked with I would say British signage, and no German markings to barrel or breech I could see.
An unusual artillery piece I have not seen on any other ww1 monuments

Thanks for the link Glevum, German guns on ww1 memorials are quite common in Australia, first one I have seen of this type.
I only wish I had been taking photos of them all as I stumbled on them.

From “naval weapons of world war one” sixty captured German 77mm field guns were placed on improvised ship mountings for DAMS (defencesivly armed ships). These were single-tube guns with wedge breech block mechanisms. These guns were rejected as unsatisfactory and returned to the army. Bore lenght was 24.29 calibres overall lenght 27 calibres, and the gun fired a 15.10 lbs (6,85kg) shell at 1526 ft/sec. Weight inclu breech 761 lbs (345kg).

I suspect the standard 77mm round, but that is only a guess
Difficult to find any information on the net regarding these.
